Quantum dots are small particles of crystalline semiconductors, typically core/shell structures that exhibit a property known as quantum confinement.

🔶 Markedly brighter than conventional pigments.
🔶 Illuminant independent.

As an example, conventional red pigments absorb light and reflect only the red part of the spectrum. Quantum pigments absorb and then emit the whole spectrum but converted into the specific chosen red colour.
This makes them not only significantly brighter but also it means that the colour does not change depending on the environment’s illuminant.
